llms.txt Checker

Enter a domain and see whether its llms.txt is one AI assistants can actually use: served with HTTP 200 as plain text rather than an HTML page, exactly one H1 title, a blockquote summary, ## sections, real markdown links instead of bare URLs, absolute links on your own domain, and a sensible size — plus whether an optional llms-full.txt exists. Every failed check comes with a one-line fix. Don't have one yet? Generate a starter llms.txt from your company name, summary and key pages, right in your browser.

Free · no sign-up · we fetch the public file, nothing is stored.

We fetch the public /llms.txt and /llms-full.txt from that site and check them. The domain isn’t stored.

Your llms.txt
# Your company

> One sentence on what you do and for whom.

Upload it to the root of your site so it’s served at /llms.txt as plain text, then check it above.

llms.txt is a markdown file at the root of a website that gives AI assistants a short, curated map of the site: a title, a one-line summary and links to the pages that matter. This checker fetches a site's llms.txt and llms-full.txt and tests them against the llmstxt.org format, with a fix for anything that fails.

Frequently asked questions

What is llms.txt?
A plain-text markdown file served at /llms.txt that tells AI assistants what a site is and which pages matter. It starts with one “# ” title, then a “> ” summary, then “## ” sections listing links as [name](url) with a short note each. The format is proposed at llmstxt.org.
How do I create an llms.txt file?
Write the title, a one-sentence summary and your key pages as markdown links — or use the generator on this page — then upload it to the root of your site so https://yourdomain.com/llms.txt returns it as plain text with HTTP 200.
Why does my llms.txt fail even though the URL loads?
The most common cause is a site that answers every URL with its HTML app shell or 404 page, so /llms.txt loads in a browser but isn't the file. The next most common is links written as “Label: https://…”, which a markdown parser doesn't read as links.
What is llms-full.txt?
An optional companion file with the full text of your key pages in one markdown document, so an assistant can read everything in a single fetch. llms.txt is the map; llms-full.txt is the content.
Does an llms.txt file get my site cited by ChatGPT or Google?
Not on its own. It helps assistants that fetch your site understand it, but whether they mention you depends on what they find when they search. A visibility scan, such as meraGEO's, shows whether they actually do.
Do you store the domains I check?
No. The domain is used to fetch the two public files, the result is returned to your browser, and nothing is saved.
